Anna R. Kammermann
Anna R. Kammermann was born in Zurich in 1951. She has been interested in art and its historical context since completing her compulsory education. Her first experiments with fine art began at teacher training college. She attended drawing and painting courses at the CSIA (School of Applied Arts) in Lugano for several years. In 1989 she attended the summer academy in Salzburg with Mario Merz. Since 1983 she has been regularly represented in various exhibitions. She has been a member of SPAS Ticino, now VISARTE, since 1984. She lives and works in Sessa, Ticino and is the mother of three adult children.
“I believe that an artist is constantly influenced by her environment, just like a sponge absorbs emotions. Politically, socially and intellectually, she absorbs everything and incorporates it into her creative work. I feel “flown over” by all influences, like a planet with a trunk that trembles slightly but is firmly rooted.”
The painter Anna R. Kammermann has continuously developed from her initial figurative painting to today’s language and mode of expression with hidden or merely implied content. Her works sometimes reveal an approach to everyday events without ever losing their mysterious depth. Color, often monochrome, takes on a central significance. On the one hand it stimulates observation, on the other it is a fascinating experiment as a material. The two overlap, merge, interpenetrate and glow – a continuous working process in which content interpenetrates and enters the picture. Anna R. Kammermann approaches the world with symbols, signs or approximations and creates a complex view of life.
