Thomas Woodtli
Thomas Woodtli attended school in Dübendorf and then trained as a laboratory technician in Basel. In 1996, he attended the glass master class in Kleinlützel. This was followed by study visits to Scandinavia, Central and South America, North Africa and Australia. In 1999, he won the prize in the professional photographer category of the “Work” photography competition, awarded by the Solothurn Chamber of Commerce, Solothurn Bank SoBa and the Cantonal Board of Trustees for Cultural Promotion. Thomas Woodtli works primarily with a digital camera and computer. However, techniques such as painting and drawing are also used in his work. He is particularly interested in the interface between painting and digital technology. He works in Oberwil and Kleinlützel and is active as a cantonal councillor in Solothurn. He is a partner in the “Bildmanufaktur” in Kleinlützel. He says of his work: “What interests me is the everyday and the trivial. I love being on the move.” Peter Killer writes about him: “The confident use of high-tech does not guarantee modern art. It also requires the appropriate mental and spiritual constitution, the need to take part in one’s own time. This desire is very pronounced in Thomas Woodtli’s work. He is interested in the images disseminated by the mass media, but his own visual experiences mean even more to him. He therefore travels a lot and is passionate about traveling.”
